Mass Effect Update/Improved Textures Mod Preview

Now for the Mass Effect Updated/Improved Textures Mod. Normally it is hard to mode Mass Effect without an external program named TexMod. TexMod affects the start-up of Mass Effect so badly i don’t like to use it. Also it is using a lot of resources. Hopefully there is a mod works without TexMod:

Still hesitating?

This mod directly changes the texture files and depends on game engine instead of TexMod to render them. So the TexMod slowness is gone. Yet if you don’t want to install the mod you for some reason can still have quality textures by making changes below. Users want to install the mod also have to make those changes:

Download and Apply Mass Effect Large Address Awareness Patch

Warning!: It is not advised to use this application if you have less than 3 GiB of RAM.

This is an application that assists in making applications large address aware. That means when a 32-bit application is large address aware, it can access up to 4 GiB on x64 operating systems and all memory that isn’t used by the operating system and other applications on x86. 64-bit versions of Windows require no modifications to the operating system to benefit from this application. However, in 32-bit versions of Windows, you must increase the user memory setting. For details:

Download, extract and run the program. Select MassEffect.exe and apply the patch.

Download and Install Mass Effect Updated/Improved Textures Mod

Note: If you don’t want to use the pack but still want better graphics jump directly to step 4 by clicking here.
Click the link below and either download all 7 parts and extract them in to the same place or use the torrent link to download all of them at once then click ME1UITM.exe and install.

Mass Effect 1 Updated/Improved Texture Mod Files

Edit Mass Effect Config File – BIOEngine.ini

On Windows XP/2000 open:
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%Username%\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config\BIOEngine.ini

On Windows Vista/7 open:
%SystemDrive%\Users\%Username%\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config\BIOEngine.ini

This will allow you the highest detailed normal maps the game can render without needing TexMod which relieves author of mod to modify many normal maps.

Find the following 3 entries:
TEXTUREGROUP_Character_Diff=(MinLODSize=32,MaxLODSize=512,LODBias=0)
TEXTUREGROUP_Character_Norm=(MinLODSize=32,MaxLODSize=512,LODBias=0)
TEXTUREGROUP_Character_Spec=(MinLODSize=32,MaxLODSize=256,LODBias=0)

And change them to:
TEXTUREGROUP_Character_Diff=(MinLODSize=512,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=0)
TEXTUREGROUP_Character_Norm=(MinLODSize=512,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=0)
TEXTUREGROUP_Character_Spec=(MinLODSize=256,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=0)

These tweaks combined with the high-textures will give you much better dynamic shadows in game.

Find the following 3 entries:
ShadowFilterRadius=2
DepthBias=.03
MaxShadowResolution=512

And change them to:
ShadowFilterRadius=5
DepthBias=.06
MaxShadowResolution=4096

Clear Your Shadow Cache

Clear your shader cache using MassEffectConfig.exe and the game will now render shadows more similarly to ME2.

Fix Mass Effect Wide-Screen Issues

Flawless Widescreen site says:
“Mass Effect has multiple issues – the HUD scaling is incorrect for ultrawide resolutions, the FOV exhibits VERT- behaviour in-game and the native method for cut-scenes is to constrict them to a single monitor aspect ratio (1.7777). After raising the aspect ratio to the full view this is Vert- also. Additionally in-menu models such as Squad view are also Vert- This fix rectifies all known Field of View issues, implements FOV Limiting (as the FOV can increase too much in some situations), unlocks Cinematic aspect ratio and rectifies the issues with the HUD scaling.” You can turn off Cinematic expansion if this is not to your taste, as occasionally you may see glitches.
